Read John Chapter 4
Samaritans were descendants of the Northern Israelite tribes of Benjamin & Manasseh; who had been captured by the King of Assyria and intermingled with. The Jews considered them "half-breeds" and despised them. Women were also considered to be inferior to men, so this is the backdrop to Jesus entering the town of Sychar in Samaria. For Jesus to associate with a Samaritan woman would have been shocking to the religious leaders of the day, but not to Jesus.
Some questions to ask
1: What are some words you would describe to how Jesus interacts with the woman?
2: How would you describe the woman's response to Jesus?
3: What do you think Jesus means by this "Living Water?"
4: How did Jesus know about her and her 5 husbands?
5: Are there any groups of people you have been prejudiced towards?
6: Have you ever been the subject of prejudice? How did you feel?
7: What was the "town's" response to Jesus?
8: God is Spirit, and his worshippers must worship in Spirit & Truth. What does this mean.
Keep reading, writing and praying, God will make things clear.
