About this Site

"Faith Comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ."            Rom 10:17

This site is simply an introduction to Jesus & some ways to deepen your relationship with Him.

You may have grown up not knowing Jesus or grown up with religion that was made up of rules and regulations to follow, not really knowing what they were about. You might be someone who has done terrible things in your life that you are embarrassed or ashamed of (we all have) and that there's no hope for you (there is). Then again you might have gone to church and been a practicing Christian for many years and poured your life out for others trying to be good & to please people, but became disillusioned with it. Then again you might just be in a rut and need some inspiration or tools to help you grow in your relationship with Christ.

Whatever your background or walk in life right now, this may be a time to simply get to know Jesus. To discover a loving, intimate, powerful relationship with the One who created you, knows everything about you and has laid his life down for you to have an everlasting friendship with Him, beginning here on earth and for eternity in heaven.

The Bible

The Bible is The Word of God. Inspired & spoken by God and written by men & women. I've heard it said B.I.B.L.E. stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth and that sounds cool, that it teaches us what we must do as an instruction manual. For centuries it was looked at as something that only "holy" people could read and understand and not for the everyday person; how sad!

I look at it and see that it is God's way of reaching out to each and every one of us, in a way, a love letter specifically designed to touch each and every heart, so that we could know how much He loves us, and start building a friendship with Him. You can buy a Bible for under $5.00 or download free app versions for your Smartphone or Tablet device. My favorite is YouVersion, it's free and it has access to a variety of translations. I go back and forth between the NIV, The Passion Translation (TPT), Amplified and The Message translations. I also have book recommendations in the "Read Me" section. These you can buy in book or app format and a number of them you can read for free through online pdf format.

Getting Started

I have spent over 25 years following Jesus and these are some of the things I have learned along the way. They are not the only way and certainly not meant to be rules for you to follow, they are simply ways that have worked for me to grow and deepen in my own relationship with Him. It's up to you to pick and choose what works for you and discover your own ways to connect with Jesus.

1: A good place to start is in the Bible, with one of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John (as these are accounts of Jesus' life here on earth) and start reading in Chapter 1. After reading one of the gospels about Jesus’ Life I recommend reading The Book of Acts as it is an account of the followers of Jesus and how they lived their lives because of their relationship with Him and the Power of The Holy Spirit working inside of them!

2: Find a quiet place to read without distractions, so that you can focus and concentrate on what you are reading. It can be a good idea to pray first and ask God to reveal himself to you as you are reading. Take your time to let things sink in, don't rush through. Meditate ( think about, consider, imagine, ruminate) upon the words, let them marinate in your mind and heart. It's good to set aside a block of time each day, I recommend at least 30 minutes, for some it may be shorter for others you may have more time. Don't skimp, you will find that it is really worth your time.

3: Have a notepad or journal to write things down that you are learning, it's also a good idea to have a dictionary handy. Ask questions. What are you learning about Jesus, his nature, his character and how he treats people. How are peoples lives affected when Jesus touches them or meets with them? How would he treat you? How is Jesus with the Religious Leaders?

4: At some point I suggest looking for a Bible Discussion group or Christian Church. One that teaches from the Bible and has a focus on "Relationship" with God, not works (your works and service will come from the loving relationship you have with Christ!). I have been a part of the International Churches of Christ for over 25 years in New York City and CT, the Trumbull Church of Christ in Connecticut and now Powerhouse Church in Katy, TX phckaty.com. I thoroughly enjoy it, I love my friendships but most importantly the focus is on relationship with a loving, gracious and powerful God who loves each one of us dearly; and through His Holy Spirit is transforming us more and more into the likeness of Christ. (Still a long way to go, but thanks to God, his love & grace for me depends on Him and not my works).

5: As you get familiar with the Bible and more comfortable in church I recommend seeking out a “mentor.” Someone you admire, respect and trust. Someone who has been a Christian for some time and demonstrates the “Fruit of the Spirit” Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Trustworthy, Gentle and Self-Controlled. I would also add Compassionate to the list, someone who can relate to what you are going though in life and advise you with how they’ve dealt with it in their life through God’s Word & Prayer.

6: For some people listening to Christian music helps make a connection, others write poetry, draw pictures, write music and make up songs. Many people find a place in nature, by the beach, a lake, the woods, on top of a mountain or simply on their back porch to see God's Creation. Lately I have started imitating David and writing my own Psalms (prayers to God) as it reminds me of all that God is, all he has done and is doing in my life and I find myself a lot more grateful and at peace after writing them.

In my "Lessons" page I am going to have examples of "Quiet Times" from the Bible as an aid to getting to know Jesus. The "Devotionals" page will have different topics that I am studying & sharing. The "Read Me" section has a variety of books that have all helped me at some point in my life to get another perspective of God & Jesus. I hope you enjoy them and if it helps you to draw closer to Jesus, then I am glad. I have also included a Contact page if you have questions.

As things progress I will add new pages for whatever is needed most.

Thanks, Michael.
