Lesson 14

The Holy Spirit is Coming.

"The Counselor (Friend, Guide Advocate, Helper), The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."     John 14:26

"Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you."    John 14:19-20

Read John Chapter 14

There is a tremendous amount in Chapter 14 to digest and it's all pretty amazing. In John Chapter 13 Jesus has spoken of his death and that he is going where no one can follow; and Jesus being who he is, is very much in touch with the despair the disciples are feeling. Therefore he wants to comfort & reassure them. He talks about his Father's House having many rooms and that he is going to prepare a room for each of them. Let's stop there for a moment. How cool is that! God has a really large house and Jesus is preparing a room for each of us!

Years ago I had a friend who's parents were incredibly wealthy (millionaires) and they had a wonderful summer house on a lake with acres of land, a picture window that had the perfect view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. They had a dock for swimming out to and sunbathing on, a speed boat for water skiing, a sailboat for gliding around the lake, bikes for riding around the country roads on and a charge card at the local store for any and all groceries you could want. I couldn't wait to get out of work on a Friday afternoon and drive up to that lake house for the weekend. It was just a wonderful place to be. I have no idea what God's house is going to be like, but I think that lake house is just a slice of what's to come. And Jesus himself is going there to prepare a room for you and me!

Then Jesus goes on and talks about his relationship with his Father and that they are One. If you've seen Jesus then it's the same as seeing the Father, God. The only way to the Father is through Jesus! Now he introduces the disciples and us to The Holy Spirit who will teach us and remind us of everything that Jesus has said and done. Jesus is reassuring and comforting them (and us) that they will not be alone, that somehow Jesus is in the Father, we will be in Jesus and Jesus will be in us. Confused?

I've heard different explanations of the Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One is that it's like H2o. There's ice, water and vapor, all different but all H2o. Another analogy is a family. We'll call them the Jones Family. There's Mr Jones, Mrs Jones and the son, Jones Junior. They are all separate but all Jones'. It's the same with God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit, all separate but all One. I think these analogies are pretty cool but only God knows precisely! In Hebrews 1:3 it states that Jesus, the Son is the radiance of God's glory and the EXACT representation of His Being! Exact, precise, no difference! Therefore when we look at Jesus, we see God the Father.

Later on we will find out more about the Holy Spirit but for now, somehow the Holy Spirit will live inside of us, teaching and reminding us of Jesus and we will live inside of Jesus. I can also say, and this is my conviction, that the Holy Spirit will never contradict God or Jesus or His Word....and vice versa! So talk about something really wonderful to look forward to, receiving God's Holy Spirit and one day getting to go to God's House where Jesus has prepared a room for you and me!

Some questions to ask.

1: What kind of house and room can you imagine Jesus preparing for you?

2: What do you know about The Holy Spirit? Can you do some research?

3: How does it make you feel knowing that you can be in Jesus and Jesus can be in you?
